The aim of this POD is to assist new and established charity trustees in understanding their roles, responsibilities and duties. Because charitable organisations come in all shapes and sizes this POD cannot fit the needs of everyone. However, by explaining requirements, introducing best practice and signposting to further information it is hoped that this POD will provide something for everyone.

Throughout this POD we will make reference to a number of freely available publications. The LINKS section will guide you to these and you may find it useful to download these documents to assist you in your role of trustee. The POD is built around the publication Good Governance: A Code for the Voluntary and Community Sector. By doing this we are drawing your attention to latest best practice and the ways in which Government, the law and the community and voluntary sector are working together to strengthen and improve our charities and voluntary organisations.
